Best $2 Wine Opener Ever
Wine openers can get fancy and people can get picky about them, myself included. I have friends who swear by their battery powered electric opener, of which I am not a fan. Others have huge contraptions with handles that you could use to crush a brick in half. I always viewed those as complete overkill.
When it really comes down to it, there’s nothing like a simple waiters corkscrew. And given how many bottles these simple devices open in restaurants across the world every night, I’d say they’ve been proven in the field.
Here’s one of my favorites, and it’s only $2 on Amazon. I like it because it’s simple, it’s point is sharp (at first), it has a hinge, and it’s only $2. I buy ten of these at a time.
They are excellent for opening wine, but they do come with a few drawbacks. First, they are only $2. They are constructed well enough to open 50 bottles, but not made to last forever. One tricky cork can bend them beyond repair mid way through their lifecycle. But that’s why you buy a bunch of them.
The point on the screw can dull over time too. When that happens I relegate the dull corkscrew to one of my suitcases, because you always want to travel with a corkscrew. If you’re avoiding checking a bag on the way back, you might want it leave it behind. This way, it doesn’t really matter.
But that’s about it for drawbacks. Overall, for $2 this little guy will do wonders for the first 50 or so bottles. After that, get ready to replace it. I’ve been using them for over a year now, and have a hard time moving to anything else, regardless of how fancy it might be.
